This past September, I had the honor of designing the bridal jewellery for the wedding of one of my dearest friends. The bride and her husband were married in a beautiful church hidden between the rolling hills of the Costa Brava over the course of a long weekend filled with countless glasses of cava, arguably the best pan con tomate I’ve ever tasted, and dancing that lasted well into the early hours of the final morning!

When it came to designing the bride’s jewellery, we immediately agreed on a modern set of earrings and matching necklace that would compliment her traditional wedding gown. The bride knew she wanted something delicate that wouldn’t detract from her handmade dress, but distinctive enough to make a gentle statement.

Given the physical distance between the two of us in the months that led up to her wedding (the bride was based in France at the time, while I resided in London), we relied mostly on photos exchanged over our mobile phones. The bride would send me images of earrings that intrigued her, and I would respond with snapshots of mock-up designs I had put together or strands of gemstones to help us decide on color and texture.

In the end, the earrings consisted of hammered 24ct gold-plated ear posts with 3 strands of 14ct gold-filled chain and grey moonstone faceted stones. The necklace was made using matching gemstones and a very thin 14ct gold-filled chain. The bride was adamant that she could wear the jewellery on a regular basis (following the conclusion of her wedding), so we added a 2-inch extender to make the necklace more versatile. Together we designed a beautiful set of bridal jewellery that served as a perfect touch to the bride’s elegant and sophisticated sense of style. If only we could re-live her wedding weekend time and time again!
